In 2014, we have installed a new helium liquefier type HELIAL SL, produced by the French company Air Liquide. This is a state-of-the-art helium liquefier with a 20 L/hr liquefaction capacity (an increase to 50 L/hr is possible with nitrogen pre-cooling). The liquefier is a part of a closed piping system (located at the Jožef Stefan Institute and the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the Ljubljana University), in which the used helium is collected and recycled, ensuring minimal production costs, minimal emission into the environment and minimal vulnerability to often emerging “helium crises” in the world.
Undisturbed operation of the helium liquefier is managed by our group member dr. Jože Luzar, formally within the Jožef Stefan Institute Infrastructural center for the helium liquefaction.
